This petroglyph is unique in that only one-half of the figure's face is illuminated at the Winter Solstice, according to an exhibit showing a photograph of this face in the Space Center Museum, near Alamogordo, NM.Planned shadow patterns at solstices and equinoxes are characteristic of many petroglyphs of celestial symbols but in this case, on a face, it may be just chance.
