KARTCHNER CAVERNS PAGE 7

The formations are
unbelievable. The dim light is a photographer's challenge. Tripods were not
permitted on this tour so all the images seen here were with my camera
hand-held. I set
my digital camera at the highest ISO rating (1600). Still the exposures were
mostly around one-fifth of a second with the camera lens at its widest
aperture. (Dimmed lighting is necessary to hold down the heat and to
inhibit growth of algae.)
I was able to obtain some sharp images by bracing my elbows on the railing
which follows the path through the cavern; however, many of my photos
show camera movement and are unusable.
