Conjunction of Moon and Venus, February 2, 2000
Some archaeoastronomers believe that the pictograph illustrated in the left image, found in Chaco Canyon, New Mexico, represents the supernova of A.D. 1054. I believe it is a depiction of a conjunction of the Moon and Venus such as the one seen on February 2, 2000, and illustrated by my photograph on the right. This close encounter, as seen from the earth, is not too rare but is always a spectacular sight.
You can learn more about this pictograph in my sections on Chaco Canyon and Prehistoric Rock Art by going to the Contents Page and clicking on these two subjects.
