Winter Solstice composite

The WINTER SOLSTICE at SIGNAL HILL

THE SUN rises over the spiral on this event.

WHEN I MADE these photographs at sunrise on winter solstices I had no idea that I would someday compare them with each other as I am doing here.

EACH EVENT lasted only a second or two. The large spiral, which is difficult to see as the Sun rises over it, is near the center of each photograph.

IN THE CENTER IMAGE, made in 1994, the Sun, which has risen above the southeastern horizon, was visible for only seconds before it was obscured by thick clouds.

EACH PHOTOGRAPH seen here was made with a different focal length lens.

IT IS A SERENDIPITOUS occurence that the images match as well as they do. The backgrounds vary because of lens differences.

I DID NOT CONSCIOUSLY stand in the center of the area that I have designated a Ceremonial Circle; however, apparently that was the natural thing for me to do, hence the similarity of the viewpoint in these images.
